Jenna and Danny’s September 2025 wedding at McGill Rose Garden in Charlotte was the kind that lingers in your brain for a while. It was so full of whimsy and personal touches
The Morning
I knew from the moment I walked in that this was going to be one of those days. The energy was immaculate.
Jenna and her people were already in full celebration mode. Dancing to Taylor Swift, laughing, completely in their element, doing each others makeup – being girls. There was this wonderful girly energy in the room that felt so genuine and unforced. Nobody was performing. Everyone was just genuinely happy to be there, happy for Jenna, happy for what the day meant. It was beautiful to witness.
As a photographer I live for mornings like this. When the getting ready space feels less like a prep room and more like a party that happened to also involve someone putting on a wedding dress.
I just followed the energy and captured everything. Right there in her living room.
McGill Rose Garden
If you haven’t been to McGill Rose Garden in Charlotte, it is one of those venues that photographs like a dream without trying. Lush greenery, climbing vines, garden details everywhere you look – it’s the kind of place that feels like it was built for exactly this kind of intimate, nature-inspired celebration.
Jenna had a vision for her wedding day that was low-key and intentional, bringing together friends and family from different cultures and different states for a celebration that felt personal rather than performative. McGill Rose Garden was the perfect setting for that. Nothing about this venue screams “wedding factory.” It feels like a place where people actually gather and connect.
Before the ceremony we found a beautiful industrial window inside the wine bar area of the venue – the kind of unexpected detail that makes my photographer brain light up. The light coming through it was gorgeous and it gave us some really unique portraits that felt completely different from the garden shots. Finding those unexpected pockets of beauty is one of my favorite parts of this work.
Private Vows in the Garden
Jenna and Danny chose to exchange their vows privately – just the two of them, under a viney pergola in the garden, before the ceremony began.
I stood back and gave them space. That’s something I believe in deeply. There are moments that aren’t mine to intrude on, and private vows are one of them. My job in those moments is to be invisible and present at the same time. To capture without interrupting.
Watching them from a distance, seeing the way they leaned into each other, the way the garden framed them – it was one of the most quietly beautiful things I photographed all year.
After their private moment we walked through the garden together for portraits. Just the three of us, moving through the space, no rush. These are often my favorite frames of the whole day because the couple is already emotionally open from their vows and everything feels natural and real.
The Details
Jenna and Danny had clearly thought about every detail of this wedding and it showed.
The friendship bracelet table settings were such a perfect personal touch – a subtle nod to Taylor Swift that felt playful without being overdone. The DIY bar added to that handcrafted, personal feeling that ran through the whole day, the music that featured Star Wars at the ceremony, macarons from their favorite bakery. This wasn’t a wedding built from a template. It was built from who Jenna and Danny actually are.
The florals by Nectar were exactly right for the garden setting – organic, lush, romantic without being fussy. The kind of florals that feel like they grew there.
And then there was the food. QC Catering brought something to this wedding that I genuinely wasn’t expecting – food that was not only delicious but actually beautiful to photograph. The styling, the colors, the presentation – everything was elevated. The appetizers being passed during cocktail hour were stunning. And those roasted carrots at dinner… I still think about those roasted carrots. I’ve genuinely tried to recreate them at home. Three times. Still not there.
The macarons by Amelie’s were a perfect finishing touch. Their macarons are so colorful, delicate, and completely on brand for a wedding that cared about every detail.
Hair and makeup by Lindsay Corbin – Jenna looked effortlessly beautiful in a way that felt completely like herself. That’s the mark of a great hair and makeup artist.
Finally, the bar service through Rosie’s Coffee and Wine with the venue kept everything flowing beautifully throughout the evening.
The Ceremony
Short and sweet – exactly what Jenna and Danny wanted.
There’s something so lovely about a couple who knows what they want their wedding to feel like and doesn’t let anyone talk them out of it. A shorter ceremony means guests are fully present for every word rather than shifting in their seats by minute forty-five. It was intentional and it worked beautifully.
The garden setting for the ceremony was everything. Surrounded by greenery and flowers, intimate guest count, everyone who mattered most in one place. It felt genuinely sacred without being formal.
Cocktail Hour and Reception
If the morning was full of energy, the reception was where that energy absolutely took over.
Cocktail hour was vibrant in the best possible way – people hugging, laughing, finding each other across the garden’s dance floor. Friends who hadn’t seen each other in years. Family who had traveled from different states and different countries to be in this garden in Charlotte on this September evening. The connection in that space was everything.
QC Catering kept the appetizers coming and they were as gorgeous as they were delicious.
Carolina DJ Professionals kept the energy exactly right throughout the evening – reading the room, keeping people on the floor, making the transitions feel seamless.
The speeches were heartfelt. The dances were full of emotion. And then came the hora.
The Hora
If you’ve never seen the hora – the Jewish tradition where the couple is lifted on chairs and carried through the crowd while everyone dances in circles around them – I cannot fully explain the energy of it in words. You have to experience it.
Jenna and Danny were lifted up, the music was going, the whole room was moving, everyone was laughing and cheering and completely present in the moment. It was chaotic and joyful and completely alive. One of those moments that reminds you why celebrating with the people you love matters so much.
As a photographer it was pure adrenaline. You’re moving, the subjects are moving, the crowd is moving, the light is bouncing everywhere and you’re just trying to capture as much of it as you possibly can before it’s over. It’s exhilarating and beautiful all at once.
What Made This Wedding Special
Jenna and Danny’s wedding was a reminder of what weddings are actually for.
Not the flowers or the food or the venue – though all of those were wonderful. But the gathering. The bringing together of people who love you from different places and different backgrounds and different chapters of your life, all in one garden in Charlotte, all there for the same reason.
That’s what this wedding was about. And it showed in every single moment of the day.
